Overview
Module 3 involves a final assessment of the Professional Lan Analyst training course. The assessment takes place in the candidates working environment. In the event that the candidate is unable to provide suitable test equipment Kenson will provide a protocol analyzer and cable tester.

PLAN 2 - Protocols & Services
 
Hands On
  • Question policy
    - The candidate must demonstrate an effective structured question policy to solving the network faults.
  • Basic checks
    - The candidate must carry out basic check on the network and illustrate an understanding of the network layout connectivity and technology.
  • Logical approach
    - The candidate will be awarded marks as they apply logical, timely and precise skills to troubleshooting the network.
  • Source Material
    - Marks will be allocated when the candidates demonstrate the relevant use of reference material.
  • Test Utilities
    - The candidate will be allocated marks on the procedures used when applying tests to the network.
  • Communications
    - The candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills to identify network issues, often the end users interpretation of the problem and the network consultants perception is different. Effective communication results in time and cost savings.
  • Theory
    - The candidate must write no more than an A4 one sided summary report to include the following.
    - Brief overview of work that was carried out.
    - Suggested course of action that may have been taken in resolving issues investigated.
    - Recommendations on improvements of network from a operational and a management perspective.
The examiner will give constructive criticism where relevant. Should lack of time have prevented a specific network issue from being investigated, the examiner will discuss how they would approach analysis of that particular area.
Assessments
The Kenson examiner and the candidate will confirm a suitable date and site where the practical can take place. Prior to the practical the candidate will be issued with guidance notes relating to the assessment.

Assessments
On completion of the course the candidate will receive a Professional Lan Analyst certificate and the complete ability to effectively manage, maintain and troubleshoot corporate networks.

Costs
The assessment costs £1,688 + VAT per person for 1 days at Kenson offices. The price for an on-site assessment is available upon request.

Assessments
At the start of the day the candidate will
  • Confirm problems that are to be diagnosed on the network.
  • The order of priority for diagnosing problems.
  • The action to be taken when the cause if a problem is identified.
The candidate is tracked by a Kenson training consultant as they diagnose problems on the network. The examiner looks for evidence that the candidate has understood and is able to apply the principles covered in the PLAN 1 and PLAN 2. The candidate must also show initiative and effective communication skills when solving network faults.
